PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) held a media iftar event “Live On Ramadan” with their outstanding Mekaar customers. This is a continuous effort to strengthen the economy of the people and empowerment. PNM Mekaar (Building Prosperous Family Economy) plays a crucial role in driving innovation, creating opportunities, and realizing growth dreams together for customers across the archipelago.

CEO of PT Permodalan Nasional Madani, Mr. Arief Mulyadi, stated that by February, they had distributed financing amounting to Rp12.5 trillion.

In terms of expansion, Arief mentioned that they are exploring reaching out to young customers by leveraging the existence of the younger generation. He elaborated that the Mekaar ecosystem is now a force on its own, present in 6,165 districts with 15.2 million active customers and 435 regencies/cities.

“With different geographies and demographics, there is definitely a young generation ecosystem that can accompany these mothers and, of course, we can embrace them. Even if we don’t do it ourselves, we will collaborate with other financial institutions, perhaps the closest to our holding company BRI and Pegadaian,” he added.

In providing more optimal empowerment, PNM also assists in exporting the businesses of these mothers by providing 1.2 million Business Identification Numbers (NIB). These NIBs can serve as the basis for them to enter more formal businesses.

Mama Muda’s Crab Chips by Mrs. Rita is one example of a product supported by PNM Mekaar Makassar branch that has been reviewed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

At the previous Live on Ramadan event, Rita shared how she started her business and her feelings when her product received praise.

“I started making crab chips because of Covid, many crabs were not being purchased or exported. So I received advice to try starting a business with abundant ingredients,” Rita said at the Live On Ramadan event.

“My feelings when receiving praise from the President of the Republic of Indonesia were certainly happy and touched. At that time, there were 60 selected MSMEs participating in the event attended by the president, but only 2 were chosen by him to be brought along. All of this is thanks to PNM,” Rita continued.

Aside from Rita, there was also a representative from the PNM Mekaar Bekasi branch, Jubaedah, with her product Luxury Taste Poor Chips. With a unique name, Jubaedah shared that the main ingredient used in these crackers is kencur, which is safe for people with acid reflux.

“Mama started this business because at that time her village was considered poor out of 9 categories. 3 of them had no MSMEs, lacked healthcare facilities, and lacked educational facilities. So ma edah was driven to start a business with affordable capital and could involve the elderly in staying productive. At that time, ma edah was informed about PNM by a neighbor, not only providing funding but also helping with licensing issues for the crackers,” she explained. (*)
