PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) recently held a thanksgiving and prayer gathering to close out 2023 and welcome the new year of 2024. Hery Gunardi, the CEO of BSI, stated that 2024 is predicted to be a challenging year due to the projected slowdown in the global economy, which will have an impact on the national economy. Therefore, Hery invited all BSI employees, from headquarters to regional areas, to pray for help and blessings from Allah SWT in all their endeavors.

“In 2024, we will face difficulties. The threat of global recession, geopolitical tensions, and various current issues will continue to be dynamic and require vigilance,” said Hery in a statement quoted on December 31, 2023. “Alhamdulillah, we have successfully gone through 2023, and hopefully, BSI will be even better in 2024,” he added.

In the third quarter of 2023, BSI achieved a profit of Rp4.2 trillion, representing a 31.04% year-on-year growth. One of the driving factors behind this rapid profit growth is the composition of Third Party Funds (DPK), which is dominated by low-cost funds. As of September, the total DPK reached Rp262 trillion, with savings accounting for Rp115 trillion, followed by deposits and current accounts.

The DPK grew by 6.91% year on year, with business savings experiencing a growth of 134.41%. This indicates that the preference of SES A (medium-high) society for BSI is high, making it their choice for syariah-based financial services.

In terms of financing, BSI has experienced positive and healthy growth while maintaining quality. As of September 2023, BSI has provided financing amounting to Rp231.6 trillion, with a year-on-year growth of 15.94%. Consumer financing accounted for Rp117.9 trillion, corporate financing Rp54.4 trillion, micro financing Rp21.5 trillion, SME financing Rp18.6 trillion, and commercial financing Rp11.9 trillion.

BSI is also committed to sustainable financing. As of September 2023, BSI’s sustainable financing reached Rp53.6 trillion, with the majority allocated to the MSME sector (Rp43.4 trillion), followed by agriculture (Rp4.9 trillion), eco-efficient products (Rp3.3 trillion), renewable energy (Rp1.4 trillion), and ecogreen projects (Rp600 billion).

Hery hopes that in the coming year, BSI will always be protected, guided, and successful with the blessings of Allah SWT. “May Allah SWT protect us all and provide us with ease and blessings for BSI, which aims to soar higher and bring benefits not only to the people of Indonesia but also to the world,” he concluded.
